For 2017, the new Harley-Davidson® Street Rod ™ promises envious glances and expectations fulfilled. Built on the Street platform, it is built for the city, while also providing an exhilarating driving experience on the open road.
Its tuned High Output Revolution ™ X 750 engine delivers more midrange torque, while the red line has also been moved up for high-rpm power. Matching the more powerful bike, the frame geometry has been sharpened and the rider is placed in a more aggressive riding position. The suspension, brakes and wheels have also been improved.
The lines of the Street Rod are unique and recognizable from thousands. Its rugged look oozes Harley-Davidson Dark Custom ™ style (with hints of flat-track steel) and oozes functionality, with a forward-facing, attack-ready stance.
The Street Rod is available in three color options:
Mathew Weber , Harley-Davidson chief engineer:
“The Street Rod ™ 's new High Output Revolution X750 has hot cams, gas-flowed heads, more compression and a higher maximum RPM. He is an attention grabber pur sang. We wanted the frame to match that character: sharp handling and plenty of aggression, perfect for fast chops and turns and stop-and-go urban traffic. Its attitude and the relationship between the saddle position, the set back footpegs and the wide handlebars provide an aggressive, dominant riding position. The fact that the Street Rod ™ looks so good – and barely differs from our first sketches – makes us all damn proud!”
More mid-range torque, more top-end power and an extra 1,000 rpm
The Street Rod ™'s liquid-cooled OHC 8V 60° V-Twin High Output Revolution X 750 engine produces 18% more horsepower and 8% more torque than the Street 750; peak power is delivered at 8,750 rpm, with peak torque at 4,000 rpm. It's tuned to deliver plenty of torque and power between 4,000 and 5,000 rpm, with a powerful midrange performance that a rider can feel and use in everyday traffic situations.
It has a larger airbox and new twin 42mm throttle bodies, new four-valve cylinder heads and high-lift camshafts, plus a larger muffler; all designed to improve airflow and efficiency. The compression ratio has been increased from 11.0:1 to 12.0:1 and the red line goes from 8,000 to 9,000 rpm.
Sharper geometry plus new suspension and brakes deliver agile handling
The Street Rod's chassis is made to match the performance of the engine. The front has a stiff 43mm upside-down fork, clamped in lightweight aluminum triple clamps. The head tube angle has gone from 32° to 27° for sharper steering.
New rear shocks feature an external reservoir for more flow with the same damping. The suspension travel has been increased by 31% to 117mm. The swingarm has been extended slightly to accommodate the longer shock absorbers, and features performance-inspired styling.
The newly designed saddle is made to hold the rider firmly in position and has been raised to 765mm to give the rider a better view forward. The Street Rod also features new forged brake/clutch levers, plus aluminum setback footpegs, which provide increased control and make it easier to reach the ground when stationary. For an even sportier ride, the lean angle has been increased from 28.5° left and right to 37.3° right and 40.2° left.
The straight dragster handlebars provide an aggressive riding position. The new bar-end mirrors can be mounted above or below the handlebars and have a patented design that allows them to fold away without getting in the way.
The Street Rod has exclusive black 17-inch open-spoke wheels front and rear and new Michelin Scorcher 21 radial tires, in 120/70 R17V front and 160/60 R17V rear. The twin two-piston calipers and 300mm discs plus ABS provide powerful, controlled braking power. Harley-Davidson's Smart Security System comes standard.
Dark Custom with its own touch
The Street Rod's improved engine and handling performance is topped off with a generous lick of Harley-Davidson Dark Custom styling. Thick black front fork and triple clamps and a new speed screen (sprayed with the body, except for a black center insert) give the front a bold look. A new butt with perforated mudguard illuminates the rear; the taillight is bright LED, as are the turn signals.
The raised seat and 17-inch wheels give the Street Rod a sporty look, while the new scoop-style air filter cover and sharper exhaust note accentuate the powerful design of the engine.
